Poorbita Kishalay
EARDS implements the Poorbita Kishalay Talent Hunt programme in four tribal-dominated areas - Uttar Sehalai, Sarpukurdanga, and Mala in Birbhum district, and Jadabganj in Purba Bardhaman district. The initiative provides non-formal elementary education and talent development support to more than 250 underprivileged children, the majority from Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. The programme focuses on early learning, talent identification, and holistic development for children facing educational and socio-economic barriers.
Addressing Linguistic and Educational Barriers
In many tribal regions, formal schooling is hindered by language gaps. Teachers are often unfamiliar with indigenous languages such as Santali, Mahali, Konda etc. which are the children's mother tongues. This communication barrier leads to fear, hesitation, disengagement, and eventually school dropout. Poorbita Kishalay addresses this challenge by using culturally sensitive teaching methods and employing educators who understand local tribal dialects. This inclusive approach builds trust, confidence, and active participation among students.
Education and Nutrition – A Dual Approach
The programme combines foundational learning with nutritional support. Alongside non-formal education, children receive wholesome meals to aid physical growth and improve concentration. This dual strategy helps combat malnutrition and educational deprivation -two critical challenges in tribal communities.
Impact and Vision
By integrating education, nutrition, and talent development, Poorbita Kishalay aims to break the cycle of poverty and underachievement among tribal children. The programme nurtures their abilities, strengthens cognitive and social skills, and equips them with the knowledge needed for future opportunities. The broader vision is to create a generation of healthy, educated, and empowered tribal youth who can contribute meaningfully to their communities and society.
Sports and Talent Hunt Programme
POORBITA KISHALAY extends holistic development beyond classrooms through a comprehensive Sports and Talent Hunt Programme that identifies and nurtures young talent from tribal and underprivileged backgrounds.
The programme covers a diverse range of disciplines, including - Taekwondo, Football, Traditional sports, Athletics, Yoga, Singing and dancing, Drama and mime, Painting and creative arts
This platform enables children to explore and showcase their abilities; ensuring talent is recognized and supported regardless of economic limitations. By integrating sports, arts, and culture with education, the programme encourages physical fitness, discipline, creativity, confidence, and teamwork.
Through mentorship, exposure, and opportunities to participate in events and competitions, EARDS empowers children to pursue excellence in their chosen areas. The long-term goal is to nurture a confident, capable, and culturally enriched generation that contributes to an inclusive and progressive society.

The Art and Cultural activities programme provide structured training and performance opportunities in various art forms, including - Painting, Clay modeling, Flower & Leaf craft, Stone carving, Slate stone carving, Dance and songs, Mime, Instrumental music
To strengthen the initiative, EARDS collaborates with experienced artists and cultural practitioners who mentor young learners. These trainers help children build technical skills, confidence, and creative expression. Participants are also encouraged to showcase their talents at cultural events and exhibitions - bringing tribal art and culture to wider audiences.
Craft Promotion and Artisan Empowerment
